Did you know? Urban family with an average spending consumable over ₹5,000 for the purpose of water purifier servicing and electrical bills. Shocking, isn’t it? Still, it is necessary to note that access to clean drinking water is a privilege for many people. The prices vary from ₹7,000 to ₹50,000, so, determining the efficient and cost-effective water purifier is important. But worry not! In this guide I will unveils the best water purifier that combines uncompromising purification with surprisingly low maintenance cost

Trust me, the Atomberg Intellon Water Purifier delivers on every front.
The machine can automatically analyse source water TDS and switch between full RO+UF+UV mode for high TDS water and mineral preserving UF+UV mode when TDS is within safe limits. Using the Atomberg Intellon is super easy – the LED ring interface provides animated feedback and the digital display shows real time TDS levels, it let me know what’s happening with water at any given time.
The 7 stage dynamic purification system delivers exceptional water quality consistently. The Atomberg Intellon processes water through pre filtration, inline sediment removal, pre carbon treatment, membrane protection, UF and RO membranes and finally UV sterilization with alkaliser treatment. TasteTune Mode allows me to adjust filtered water TDS between three ranges (50-100 ppm, 75-125 ppm or 100-150 ppm), the optimal 75-125 ppm range provides perfectly balanced mineralization.
I used the Intellon with moderately hard water (450 ppm TDS) and I consistently got the promised recovery rates while maintaining output TDS at 85 ppm. The 25 liters per hour capacity is more than enough for a family, it fills the 8 liter food grade ABS tank in about 20 minutes.
AutoCleanse Technology does frequent automatic cleaning of filters and membranes, which extends the life of the components. The Atomberg Intellon’s RO membrane has scaling prevention technology which worked even with high mineral content water. Filter life is up to 12,000 liters or 2 years whichever comes first and the system provides accurate replacement timing through smart monitoring. Post warranty maintenance is very affordable with individual filter replacement costing between ₹200-₹1,100 per component, total ₹2,960 for complete overhaul.
The purifier struggled slightly with very low water pressure below 10 PSI, requires a booster pump installation which Atomberg provides at no extra cost. I tested the system with tough contaminants like chlorine treated municipal water and iron rich borewell supply – both were handled well, though the pre-carbon filter required more frequent cleaning with heavily chlorinated water.
Performance analysis across different modes showed consistent output, RO+UV mode gave 65-85 ppm TDS from 600+ ppm input, UF+UV mode gave 180-220 ppm from 250 ppm source water.

Among water purifiers, Aquaguard Delight NXT Aquasaver is tied with Kent Grand Plus and Livpure Glo for the most comprehensive filtration system. Unlike Havells Max which is bulky and utilitarian, Aquaguard Delight NXT is compact and modern, feels premium. Smart LED indication system is also intuitive and looks much better than most.
There is some assembly required with this purifier, but minimal. I just had to mount the wall bracket and secure the unit using the provided screws which needs to be tightened properly. Took me under 30 minutes, although at 6.2 kg in weight you do need someone to help you hold it during installation.
Smart LED indicators which operate service alerts and filter warnings are clear and very easy to use. But 9 stage purification process is much more complex. Filter system has multiple cartridges, each representing a different purification stage. I have to monitor the filter life indicator which requires me to understand when each component needs to be replaced.
During testing I found Aquaguard Delight NXT delivered extremely pure water with impressive TDS reduction (220 PPM to 47 PPM). Sitting next to it in our kitchen I could feel the difference in taste within minutes, and in less than an hour our client entire family felt the difference in water quality.
That’s not surprising given it’s one of the most energy efficient in our round-up using just 40 watts on its highest purification setting. At current average electricity rates of ₹5.74 per unit, that means on its highest setting this model costs roughly ₹0.24 per hour to run.
Good design, generally easy to use, lowest AMC and excellent purification performance and filter life 10,000 litre that runs 2 years, if source water TDS is under 1000 ppm, makes me rate Aquaguard Delight NXT the best water purifier for medium to large families.

The Urban Company M1 water purifier comes with an exciting new 2 year filter life that can save consumers up to ₹18,000 on total ownership and service costs. This innovative technology requires service only once every 2 years thanks to filters that last for up to 24 months. With its 9-stage water purification process including UV, UF, and TDS Control, the M1 purifier ensures delivery of pure and safe drinking water. It also offers a 2 year unconditional warranty that covers all filter replacements, membranes and electrical parts at zero added service cost. In the 3rd year, AMC is only ₹4,500 and the tank itself lasts upto 2 years, so in the 4th year AMC cost is zero.
The sleek and minimalist panel has a handy digital display and a single dispensing tap below. Its contemporary aesthetic is likely to seamlessly blend with most modern kitchen designs. Made using durable and easy-to-maintain high-quality plastic, the tap is a convenient lever-type placed on the front for easy access to softer and less chlorinated purified water whenever you need it. I love the smart and efficient design.
With its In-tank UV feature that enhances water safety via continuous UV light inside the storage tank, and a useful guide light that glows while dispensing to help you fill water even in the dark, the M1 purifier delivers on functionality too. This wall-mounted unit also comes with a retractable tray for hands-free bottle filling that can be tucked away when not in use. It is ideal for all water sources including tanker, borewell, municipal and tap water supply. The 8 liter food grade tank keeps water mineral-enriched and free of harmful chemicals.
Tested the TDS and was impressed to find it reduces hardness and chlorine levels, delivering a noticeably softer and fresher tasting drinking water. With such transparent AMC pricing and a purifier filter that lasts up to 2 years, this model is perfect for modern urban homes looking for low maintenance costs. I think Urban Company has more than delivered on their promise of smart app connectivity and an efficiently designed water filter with ultra low maintenance requirements.

What sets the Aquaguard Aura 2X Life Purifier apart is its affordable AMC, priced near ₹2250. This new-age purifier comes with advanced filters that last for 2 years, eliminating the need for service during that time. It utilizes Dual Layer Filter Technology (DLFT) which increases the RO membrane’s surface area, improving water recovery. You can see this is the same technology used in the Urban Company Native M1 Purifier. The Aura 2X Life includes free installation, an external pre-filter inside the box, and a 2-year warranty.
Suitable for water with 0 to 2000 mg/L TDS, testing showed it reduced input water at 1230 mg/L TDS to 107 mg/L after purification. In contrast, the Urban Company model handles only up to 1500 mg/L TDS, a 500 mg/L difference. You will find advanced water-saving technology helps save 50% water, rejecting just 500 mL per liter purified. Infusing the right copper level from the first drop, it meets BIS norms.
With a 7-liter tank holding about 35 glasses of 200 mL each, the food-grade ABS ensures bacteria, virus and chemical free purified water. The external tank level is visible. Specs are similar to the Urban Company M2 but it costs around ₹3000 less.
I have found the large capacity perfect for a family of four. You can see the affordable AMC and advanced dual layer filtration technology make the Aura 2X Life a great value. As you will find, it effectively reduces TDS while saving water, with a 7-liter tank and 2-year warranty.

Compact and efficient design, the Aquaguard Enrich Marvel RO+UV+UF 2X has 10 stage purification with RO Max 2X technology and UV e-boiling equivalent to 20+ minutes of traditional boiling. This is a great addition to most homes but it’s in the higher price range.
Controlling the Aquaguard Enrich Marvel is done through the LED indication system which gives clear visual feedback for all operations. The interface shows service reminders, tank full indicators and filter life warnings through separate electronic alerts. It also has customizable auto shut off and filter replacement scheduling.
By default Aquaguard will turn on its MTDS (Mineral Total Dissolved Solids) optimization technology which will automatically adjust mineral levels based on source water. After 10 purification cycles this intelligent system will learn your water source and optimize the 3-in-1 Active Copper Technology for consistent mineral enhancement.
Otherwise the 6.2 litre capacity is good for 4-6 members of the family, can easily accommodate daily drinking water needs with 20 litres per hour flow rate. It can handle large cooking vessels up to 3 litre capacity directly from the dispenser. And has a compact 32L x 27.8W x 48H cm footprint which is always a nice touch.
Across my tests I found the Aquaguard Enrich Marvel performed well and efficiently with low running cost. In my municipal water test cycle the running cost was 12p per 10 litres compared to Kent Grand Plus 15p for similar output, achieved “excellent clarity with complete removal of chlorine taste and odour”.
I then tested its borewell water purification cycle which cost around 14p per 10 litres compared to Pureit Ultima 17p for similar high TDS water treatment. While it handled water up to 2000 PPM TDS, it required additional pre-filtration for very turbid sources.
For best mineral retention and taste enhancement I would recommend activating the Active Copper Booster mode which costs 16p per 10 litre cycle. This premium mode gives you remarkably enriched water with optimal copper, calcium and magnesium levels as per BIS standards.
Specifications:
- Water Purification Technology- RO+UV+UF+MC Tech
- Water storage tank – ABS Plastic
- Water Purification stage – 9
- Wattage -40 Watt

The Bepure 4G water purifier has performed really well in my tests whereby the purified water was pleasantly neutral, clear, and tasted really fresh with no odour. Its 8-stage ultra purification process and protected boring system with Alkaline Mineral Technology removes what we do not want into our bodies even gets particles as small as 1-2 microns while enhancing the retention of wellbeing minerals. The low maintenance RO purifier also effectively removes chlorine and also reduces the TDS value to provide you with healthy RO water.
Esthetically I have appreciated that the purifier is slim with a glossy white-blue coat on its surface. It has a transparent water tank; it has touch key smart LED display screen to indicate the operations and the maintenance status. The purifier also ensures there is a continuous supply of hot water at the rate of 2 liters per minute at between 80-90°C convenient for making beverages. It also delivers chilled water at 15-20°C, although at a slower 1.5 liters per hour flow rate.
The taps for water are two distinctly located and one for hot water and another for cold water and both are labelled with red and blue respectively. Moving to the warranty expiry, the cost of replacement of the filters is only ₹2100 per year on average, that is over 50% cheaper than with other brands. There is a ₹500 installation charge. This RO purifier has been evaluated to require minimal maintenance, to filter water effectively, give water with a desirable taste, and come in a beautiful body for the affordable price given.
Specifications:

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to maintain a normal RO water purifier?
Popular brands like KENT, Aquaguard, AO Smith, Pureit use different types of filters used in a typical 8 or 9 stage RO system, each with their own optimal replacement timeline:
- Pre-Carbon Filters: These granular activated carbon filters are the first line of defence against contaminants. They remove sediment and chlorine to extend the life of downstream filters. Carbon filters should be replaced every 6-12 months or when they have processed 3000 litres, brands like Aquagurd Aura, and KENT grand RO show the life span of an RO.
- Sediment Filters: Sediment filters come next and remove fine particulate matter that can damage the RO membrane. They usually last about 6-12 months or 3000 liters before needing replacement, life is same as I shown you above.
- RO Membrane: This gradually wear out over time. On average, models like Aquaguard Aura, KENT Grand RO replacing the membrane every 10 to 12 months or around 6000 liters to maintain good performance. Replacement cost is around
- Post-Carbon Filter: A final carbon filter polishes water before it reaches the tap. These should be replaced on the same schedule as the pre-filter, every 6-12 months.
Filter | Frequency | Life | Average Cost (₹) |
Pre-Carbon | 6 months | 3000 Litre | ₹350 |
Sediment | 6 months | 3000 Litre | ₹350 |
RO Membrane | 10–12 months | 6000 Litre | ₹1500 |
UV Lamp | 24 Months | 12000 Litre | ₹500 |
Post Sediment | 6-12 Months | 6000 Litre | ₹350 |
What are the Maintenance costs of UV water purifiers?
