You are looking to buy a water purifier, and you can see from your TDS meter that the TDS of your source water is between 100 to 200 ppm. This is making you confused about whether you should get a UV + UF water purifier or an RO with UV+ UF water purifier.
If your TDS is under 200, technically, it is recommended that you go towards UV+UF. However, this means the heavy metals (lead, mercury, arsenic, chromium, cadmium. etc) will remain little; they won’t show up on your TDS meter. If you want to get rid of from harmful heavy metals, you should go for a complete RO water purifier.
But you are still confused because mineral content is lost in an RO water purifier. So, for this, you can choose a complete RO solution that comes with a TDS controller Or Mineraliser. With this, the essential minerals from your source water will remain, albeit in small quantities. The benefit here is that the heavy metals will be completely removed with RO solution.
And when buying an RO water purifier, you should also keep the maintenance in mind about the AMC. Previously, the annual maintenance for a water purifier used to range from 5,000 to 6,000 for one year. However, many companies are now providing a life of 2 years for RO filters. So, if the 2-year filter replacement charge is ₹6,000, it becomes ₹3,000 per year for you. That reduces the annual maintenance by 50%.
For this, you need to ensure that whatever water purifier you buy has an RO filter life of at least 12,000 litres, so that you don’t have to deal with the hassle of annual maintenance for at least 2 years.

How We Tested?
To come up with the list of the best water purifiers at low maintenance cost in India, we have tested all the options of at least two weeks in normal homes with different water sources.
In order to objectively compare and analyse the models, we compare them based on a number of parameters and compare the results.

To ensure that the purification process is effective, we measure the input and output TDS with a digital TDS metre. We test the ratio of reduction and cheque whether the purified water TDS is in the safe and palatable range of 50-150 ppm. This assists us in knowing the real purification performance of each model.

To recover water, we determine how much water was purified and how much water was used. This is important since increased water wastage translates directly into your water bill which is a constant maintenance expense that most buyers do not consider.
Since the main concern of this list is maintenance cost, we monitor all the costs involved during and after warranty period. This will cover the cost of replacement of filters, AMC charges, technician visit fees and any other consumables. We then determine the unit cost of purified water per litre of each model.
In terms of quality of construction and durability, we consider the tank material, body construction, quality of fittings and tubing. The ease of replacing the filters is also evaluated, whether the user can do it or the technician is needed, since this affects the cost of maintaining the product in the long term.
Atomberg Intellon is one of the most suitable products in terms of lowest long-term maintenance cost, yet without sacrifices in regard to purification quality due to its 8-litre food-grade ABS tank, dynamic 7-stage purification, and power consumption of 50 watts.

The purification performance is very good with its RO + UF + UV + Alkaliser combination technology; it can purify input water with a TDS of up to 1,500 ppm. The best level of 75-160 ppm in our tests provided water that was significantly fresh and well balanced.
The Intelligent Filtration System is the real difference between the Atomberg Intellon and other products. It measures the TDS of the source water and automatically changes to RO mode and non-RO mode (UF + UV). At safe levels of TDS (100 – 220 PPM) , it does not pass through the RO membrane at all. This not only preserves essential minerals but also reduces wear on the RO membrane, which increases its lifespan and keeps maintenance costs down.
The rate of recovery of water is also impressive with up to 50 percent, saves about 10,000 litres of water every year as compared to the Normal RO + UV + UF purifiers. When RO is on, the ratio of rejection is 1:1 i.e. 1 litre of waste to 1 litre of purified water. This is much superior to the majority of choices on this list.
On to the maintenance cost, which is the highlight of this purifier, the post warranty filter replacement costs are very low. The pre-filter costs ₹200, sediment filter costs ₹430, pre-carbon filters costs ₹490, membrane protector costs ₹250, RO membrane costs ₹1100 and the alkaliser/mineral cartridge costs ₹490. The sum of everything is only ₹2960 even with the replacement of all the individual parts. The estimated cost per litre is 0.247 with a filter capacity of 12,000 litres, which is the cheapest among all in this list.
The intelligent capabilities also require a special mention. The purifier has an IoT capability and can be connected to the Atomberg Home App through Wi-Fi. It is an LED ring interface with animated display, which displays real-time TDS levels, error codes and tank full indicators. The app also tracks the health of the philtres and sends replacement notifications, so you do not have to guess when philtres are required to be changed.
The purifier is also equipped with AutoCleanse Technology which automatically cleans the filter and membranes frequently and a VacayMode which automatically flushes the purifier after every 48 hours when you are not home to avoid stagnation and biofilm formation.
On the negative side of it, the purifier lacks copper infusion technology. Therefore, in case you want to have copper-enriched water in particular, you would have to consider Aquaguard models. It also does not have a bottle tray and therefore you have to hold your bottle or glass during dispensing. And with less than 10 PSI of water pressure, you would require a booster pump, but Atomberg can offer it with no extra charge.
It has a range of operating pressure of 10-30 PSI. A pressure reducing valve would be necessary in case the pressure is more than 30 PSI.
Generally, when it comes to the lowest maintenance cost possible, smart monitoring and adaptive purification technology, Atomberg Intellon is the most suitable choice on this list. The 2 year warranty is all inclusive, which implies that the first two years are free, and thereafter, the replacement costs are the lowest of all the options that we tested.

We identified Aquaguard Sure Delight RO+UV+UF 2X as one of the best in the category of low-cost products. And, to answer the most common inquiries of our readers, around ₹10,499 it has 2-year filter life and 7-stage purification which is quite impressive at the price.

It has a 6-litre ABS tank and maximum flow rate of 24 litres per hour. The purification system is a combination of RO + UV + UF technologies and NanoPore 2X Filter Technology. The high surface area of the RO membrane guarantees higher water recovery and higher rate of filtration compared to the normal ROs.

The purifier is provided with 7 stages of purification. The NanoPore RO 2X is resistant to pesticides, microplastics and industrial waste. UV e-boiling provides purification as good as water boiled more than 20 minutes. Ultra Filtration is used to remove ultra-fine suspended particles. The 2-in-1 Mineral Charge adds micronutrients such as calcium and magnesium to purified water to provide a better flavour and taste.
During testing I found Aquaguard Delight NXT delivered extremely pure water with impressive TDS reduction (220 PPM to 47 PPM). Sitting next to it in our kitchen I could feel the difference in taste within minutes, and in less than an hour our client entire family felt the difference in water quality.
That’s not surprising given it’s one of the most energy efficient in our round-up using just 40 watts on its highest purification setting. At current average electricity rates of ₹5.74 per unit, that means on its highest setting this model costs roughly ₹0.24 per hour to run.
The complete cost of the filter replacement is ₹5,999, which is equivalent to the pricier Enrich Marvel. This is somewhat disappointing, since one would have assumed a lower replacement cost of a low-end model. This cost is divided by 24 months since the 2-year filter life implies that the filter is used every 24 months, which makes it about 250 per month.

The warranty period is 1 year, Free Genuine Service Plan will include installation, 2 free cleaning services and unlimited repair visits during the first year only.
All in all, in case you need an inexpensive water purifier with decent purification efficiency, good water recovery and 2-year filter life, and your source water TDS is less than 1,000 ppm, then Aquaguard Sure Delight is a viable option. However, when your TDS is more, you would need to consider the Enrich Marvel or the V-Guard Rejive 2X.

NATIVE by Urban Company M1 comes with 8 litre food grade tank, 10 stage purification system and filtration rate of 20 litres per hour. It is also accompanied by a 2 years unconditional warranty and does not need any service within this time.

The NATIVE M1 uses RO + UV + UF + TDS + Alkaline purification technologies and purifies 100 percent of the water using RO without mixing of the MTDS and bypassing of RO. This makes sure that all the drops are purified. It decreased TDS in our tests by 450 ppm to 80 ppm, which is very impressive. The 3-in-1 Alkaline Mineral Charger then replenishes the calcium, magnesium and copper, increases the PH and also increases the taste of the water.
The in-tank UV sterilisation which operates 24×7 is one of the most reassuring features. Although the purified water may be in the tank hours, the UV lamp will make sure that it is not contaminated by microbes. This comes in handy especially when it comes to families that do not use water as often during the day.
The Smart Rinse Technology maximises the output of purified water and automatically cleans the philtres to avoid clogging and prolongs the life of the philtres. The overall capacity of purification is 12,000 litres and the filter have a life span of 2 years.
Next, we arrive at the maintenance cost. The 2-year unconditional warranty is applicable to all filters, membranes and electrical parts at no cost. After the warranty, the AMC of years 1-2 is about 4,500 INR, which includes all filters and membranes. According to NATIVE, you can save up to 20,000 over 8 years when using their purifier as compared to other traditional brands. The warranty may also be renewed to a further 2 years with Urban Company servicing.
With the support of Urban Company, it is possible to make service requests with their app and a trained technician comes to your house. It is also professionally installed and free. Nevertheless, depending on the water pressure, you might require more pressure equipment that can cost ₹250-750.
Regarding the disadvantages, the purifier lacks a TDS controller. This implies that you are not able to set the output TDS to a required level. Although this guarantees 100% RO-purified water with no contamination, this can be restrictive to some of the users who like slightly higher TDS water to taste. The water wastage is also high. This is among the least efficient in the list in terms of water recovery at up to 40 litres of waste per 10 litres of purified water.
It is also wall-mounted and can be placed countertop. It weighs around 10.8 kg. All in all, when you appreciate hassle-free service with the support of Urban Company network, 100 percent RO processing with no concessions and 24×7 in-tank UV protection, NATIVE M1 is a good choice to consider. The 2-year free warranty and low post warranty AMC makes it an actual low-maintenance option.

The sleek and minimalist panel has a handy digital display and a single dispensing tap below. Its contemporary aesthetic is likely to seamlessly blend with most modern kitchen designs. Made using durable and easy-to-maintain high-quality plastic, the tap is a convenient lever-type placed on the front for easy access to softer and less chlorinated purified water whenever you need it. I love the smart and efficient design.

With its In-tank UV feature that enhances water safety via continuous UV light inside the storage tank, and a useful guide light that glows while dispensing to help you fill water even in the dark, the M1 purifier delivers on functionality too. This wall-mounted unit also comes with a retractable tray for hands-free bottle filling that can be tucked away when not in use. It is ideal for all water sources including tanker, borewell, municipal and tap water supply. The 8 liter food grade tank keeps water mineral-enriched and free of harmful chemicals.
Tested the TDS and was impressed to find it reduces hardness and chlorine levels, delivering a noticeably softer and fresher tasting drinking water. With such transparent AMC pricing and a purifier filter that lasts up to 2 years, this model is perfect for modern urban homes looking for low maintenance costs. I think Urban Company has more than delivered on their promise of smart app connectivity and an efficiently designed water filter with ultra low maintenance requirements.

Aquaguard Aura 2X is a balanced solution with a good purification and a high water efficiency with a fairly large 7-litre tank. It operates on RO + UV purification featuring the Dual Layer Filter Technology and Patented Active Copper Technology. It operates with any source of water and can flow at a maximum rate of 15 litres per hour.

The Dual Layer Filter Technology enhances the surface area of the RO membrane that enhances the water recovery. The water conservation in our tests was between 50-60% so it is also one of the most water-efficient in this list. This is a significant benefit to families that are concerned with water wastage.
The Patented Active Copper Technology incorporates the best copper according to the BIS standards with the first drop. It is germ-free and can be used by anyone.
The filter has a lifespan of 2 years and no service is needed within this time. The purifier is warranted against the RO membrane, all electrical components and the entire product with a 2-year warranty. The carton contains a free external pre-filter, and it is installed free of charge.

On the maintenance cost, the replacement filter costs are quoted at less than 6,000, which is comparable to other Aquaguard models.
Suitable for water with 0 to 2000 mg/L TDS, testing showed it reduced input water at 1230 mg/L TDS to 107 mg/L after purification. In contrast, the Urban Company model handles only up to 1500 mg/L TDS, a 500 mg/L difference. You will find advanced water-saving technology helps save 50% water, rejecting just 500 mL per liter purified. Infusing the right copper level from the first drop, it meets BIS norms.
With a 7-liter tank holding about 35 glasses of 200 mL each, the food-grade ABS ensures bacteria, virus and chemical free purified water. The external tank level is visible. Specs are similar to the Urban Company M2 but it costs around ₹3000 less.
The tank is however not made of stainless steel but of food grade ABS. In case hygiene and longevity of tanks are the main concerns, the V-Guard Rejive 2X or Aquaguard Aspire Blaze with stainless steel tanks would be more suitable. In addition, the 2-year warranty is all-inclusive, but the post-warranty service framework and the AMC expenses are not so clear as in the case of Atomberg or NATIVE.
The purifier is certified by NABL and WQIA and this gives some credibility to purification claims. It has intelligent notifications of filter life warnings, tank-full notifications, electronic error notifications and service need notifications.

All in all, Aquaguard Aura 2X is a middle ground in terms of high water efficiency, compact footprint, and copper infusion feature. Its 50-60% water savings is a real strength to the families that want to reduce water wastage as a recurrent expense.
Specifications:
| Dimensions (cm) | 32L × 27.8W × 48H |
| Weight (kg) | 7 |
| Purification Rate | 20 L/hr |
| Filtration Technology | RO + UV + UF (10-stage, NanoPore Filter + Active Copper) |
| Filter Life | 2 years |
| Tank Capacity | 6.2 L |
| Tank Material | Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) |
| TDS Support (max ppm) | 2,000 ppm |
| UV Technology | UV e-boiling (equivalent to 20+ min boiling) |
| Smart Features | LED indicators (service reminders, tank-full, filter life warnings, error alerts), Auto shut-off, change filter indicator |
| Water Recovery | >40% (Water Saving RO Technology) |
| Warranty Coverage | 1-year warranty + free installation; 2 free cleaning services & unlimited repair visits (1st year only) |
| Filter Replacement Cost | ₹5,999 (complete replacement) |
Compact and efficient design, the Aquaguard Enrich Marvel RO+UV+UF 2X has 10 stage purification with RO Max 2X technology and UV e-boiling equivalent to 20+ minutes of traditional boiling. This is a great addition to most homes but it’s in the higher price range.
Controlling the Aquaguard Enrich Marvel is done through the LED indication system which gives clear visual feedback for all operations. The interface shows service reminders, tank full indicators and filter life warnings through separate electronic alerts. It also has customizable auto shut off and filter replacement scheduling.
By default Aquaguard will turn on its MTDS (Mineral Total Dissolved Solids) optimisation technology which will automatically adjust mineral levels based on source water. After 10 purification cycles this intelligent system will learn your water source and optimise the 3-in-1 Active Copper Technology for consistent mineral enhancement.

Otherwise the 6.2 litre capacity is good for 4-6 members of the family, can easily accommodate daily drinking water needs with 20 litres per hour flow rate. It can handle large cooking vessels up to 3 litre capacity directly from the dispenser. And has a compact 32L x 27.8W x 48H cm footprint which is always a nice touch.

Across my tests I found the Aquaguard Enrich Marvel performed well and efficiently with low running cost. In my municipal water test cycle the running cost was ₹9 for 10 litres compared to Kent Grand Plus ₹10.5 for similar output, achieved “excellent clarity with complete removal of chlorine taste and odour”.
In our test, the Enrich Marvel delivered great specifications. At 20 liters per hour it maintains quality and gives over 40% water recovery.
The 3-in-1 Active Copper Technology infuses minerals as per BIS norms throughout the filter life.
Not only is the Enrich Marvel good for homes that need long term performance but also effective against many contaminants. If you need 2 year filter protection at reasonable price, this model is a great value.
I then tested its borewell water purification cycle which cost around ₹5.8 10 litres compared to Pureit Ultima ₹10 for similar high TDS water treatment. While it handled water up to 2000 PPM TDS, it required additional pre-filtration for very turbid sources.

For best mineral retention and taste enhancement I would recommend activating the Active Copper Booster mode which costs 16p per 10 litre cycle. This premium mode gives you remarkably enriched water with optimal copper, calcium and magnesium levels as per BIS standards.
The recovery rate of water is more than 40, which is not bad but not the highest in this list. The purifier also includes LED indicators in terms of service reminders, tank-full alerts, filter life warnings and electronic error notifications.

On the cost of maintenance, the entire cost of replacement of the filter is ₹5,999. This is quite understandable in a 2-year cycle, but it is significantly higher than the price offered by Atomberg Intellon. In addition, the warranty is not 2 years, but 1. The free Genuine Service Plan is free installation, 2 free cleanings and unlimited visits to repair, however, the first year is free. Following this, there are extra costs of service visits and repairs.
When you need copper-enriched water with a good 10-stage filtering system, and the brand name of Aquaguard, the Enrich Marvel is a good choice. However, consider the ₹5,999 filter replacement price after every 2 years and the fact that the full service coverage is only 1 year.
Specifications:
| Weight (kg) | 7 kg |
| Purification Rate | 20 liters per hour |
| Filtration Technology | 10-stage RO+UV+UF |
| Filter Life | 10,000 liters or 2 years |
| Tank Capacity | 6.2 liters |
| Tank Material | ABS |
| TDS Support | up to 2,000 ppm |
| Water Recovery | Over 40% |
| Mineral Enhancement | Active Copper, Calcium, Magnesium |
| Special Features | NanoPore technology, MTDS |

Aquaguard Aspire Blaze is a special product in this list because it is the only purifier that dispenses both hot and ambient temperature water. It is equipped with two stainless steel tanks, 9-stage purification and NanoPore Filter Technology that has a 2-year filter life. It operates with all water sources such as municipal, borewell and tanker water with a TDS of up to 2,000 ppm.
The hot water that is instant at 80 °C is really handy. The 0.5-liter hot water tank gives 80°C water in 10 seconds to 2 minutes. You can get steaming hot water at the touch of a button whether you are making green tea, dissolving honey and lemon or making baby formula without necessarily boiling it separately. The dual-dispense technology allows you to alternate between hot and ambient water without any problem.
The two stainless steel tanks are crafted of 304 surgical-grade steel which is non-corrosive, strong and hardy. They maintain longer freshness of water than plastic tanks and do not get odour or discolouration as time goes by.

But the filter life depends on your water TDS being below 200 ppm. Just like we saw in Kent Grand Plus and HUL Pureit Copper, in this Aquaguard you can see multi stage purification technology. Similarly in this purifier you can get RO+UV protection against contaminants. It also has NanoPore filters, Active Copper Technology, 9 stage purification process – all of this you can activate with simple touch controls.

And in this you’ll find surgical grade stainless steel tanks with separate compartments. Its advantage is that you get corrosion resistance and water stays fresh for longer periods. And another very good thing is that you’ll find child lock feature for hot water safety.

If you want to make instant tea or coffee – if you’ve set a goal to reduce your gas usage then you can dispense hot water directly in this and you can see instant 80°C water flow.
And when we tested its TDS reduction capability our input water TDS was 220 and it brought it down to. So I found that it achieves 84.7% TDS reduction efficiency.
The extra Mega Sediment Filter free of charge helps to avoid choking and prolongs the lifespan of internal filters. The purifier also has a child lock with a special two-step dispensing system that avoids accidental burns by hot water which is an essential safety measure in case you have young children at home.
The drip tray can be removed and bottles can be filled with a maximum capacity of 1 litre without any hands being used and can be washed easily. The design is in a premium piano black finish which appears classy in a contemporary kitchen. It may be mounted on the wall or be mounted on a counter.
Moving on to the maintenance cost, the life of the filter is 2 years and the free Genuine Service Plan includes installation, 2 free cleaning services and unlimited repair visits during the first year. The total cost of replacement of the filters is comparable to other Aquaguard models.
But its maintenance cost is ₹7,499 for 2 years.
Nevertheless, there are some disadvantages that should be mentioned. It is also priced around ₹27,499, which is considerably higher than all other items on this list. The total tank capacity of 5.6 litres divided into a hot and ambient compartment is small. It is also heaviest at 13.25 kg and thus wall mounting is slightly more complicated. At 40 percent, the water recovery is average.
In general, when you frequently require hot water and do not want to spend much time on choosing a purifier and a hot water dispenser separately, Aquaguard Aspire Blaze is worth its money. The two stainless steel tanks, child lock and high-end design contribute to its attractiveness. However, in case you do not require hot water dispensing, you would be better with a cheaper one on this list.

When we put the Aquaguard Ritz Pro in municipal water (190 ppm TDS) the app displayed real-time TDS IN and TDS OUT values, and the output remained at a steady level of 144 ppm. The 21-point health cheque that took less than a minute and verified the condition of all internal parts, such as the RO pump pressure, UV lamp operation, and filter condition.
The Titanium Duo Filters have a 2 year or 10,000 litre rating. Their high surface area enhanced faster filtration rate as opposed to the normal Aquaguard membranes. The 5 th Gen UV LED did not need warming up and it turned on immediately to give clean water at will. This LED unit is safer and said to last up to 10 years unlike the traditional UV lamps, which contain mercury and thus require replacement after a long period.
The 3-in-1 Active Copper Technology contained copper, calcium and magnesium according to BIS requirements. The clean-free system and the ability to use by all ages corresponded to the performance that we had in the Enrich Marvel and Nexen.
The 9-step purification consists of mega sediment filter, Titanium RO membrane and UV LED sterilisation. The purifier boasts of 30 times greater efficiency in dust and dirt cleaning than local purifiers, 10 times greater chemical protection and over 40 percent water savings.
The flow rate is 15 litres per hour and the 6.2 litre tank was filled at a rate that was sufficient to serve four family members. It can be mounted on the wall and on the table.
The replacement of the filters after the warranty period is based on the normal Aquaguard pricing. The network of services is identical to all Aquaguard models, wide in India. Titanium Duo Filters are spare parts that can be purchased via Aquaguard service and online.
The Aquaguard Ritz Pro is the right choice in case you would like to have smart monitoring, automated maintenance notifications, and copper-enriched water with a 2-year filter life. In case smart features are not of utmost importance, the Aquaguard Nexen offers the same purification at a cheaper cost.

V-Guard Rejive 2X is the most interesting product on this list considering the warranty along with the service support and stainless steel tank. It is equipped with a 5.5-litre tank of 304 stainless steel, 9-stage purification and maximum flow of 20 litres per hour. It treats water sources of up to 2,000 ppm TDS.
The purification system is a combination of RO + UV + UF and a 3-in-1 Alkaline Powered Health Charger. It has post-carbon and alkaline and mineral modules that add flavour, replace missing minerals and neutralise pH of RO-purified water. The purifier recycles 100 percent of the water using RO without any TDS adjustment, bypass and mixing of non-RO water. This makes every sip remain pure with no contaminants.
The DuoGuard Filter Technology is an innovative product that should be mentioned separately. It does not require any external pre-filter. It has a special flow dynamics and an inbuilt filter configuration that reduces pressure drop at the first stage itself. The active filtration in DuoGuard is silver charged, which prevents the growth of microbes and addresses heavy metals and toxic chemicals. This improves the performance of the RO membrane and increases its life span as opposed to the traditional purifiers. It is a real cost saving that you do not have to purchase or change an external pre-filter.
Another highlight is the stainless steel tank. The seamless 304-grade stainless steel tank does not corrode or leak unlike the plastic tanks that can develop odour with time, so the water is fresh, tastier and odourless longer. It is also long lasting and hygienic.
The warranty and the service support of this model is the star though. The 2-year unconditional warranty is all inclusive of filters and membranes down to all the electrical parts without any hidden charges, no fine print and zero cost. But V-Guard doesn’t stop there. They offer proactive service involving 2 scheduled visits at the 9 th and 18 th months to clean the tank and filters. Moreover, 2 DuoGuard filter replacements will be provided within the warranty period to make sure that the purifier has a long life.
Even with 2,000 ppm of TDS, the water recovery is up to 40% and is in line with the latest BIS standards. The specific UV chamber that has a 4W lamp is more effective in disinfecting water and the UF filter provides an additional safety measure.
To the disadvantages, the 5.5-litre tank is the least large in this list. When you have a family of 5 or more and during summer seasons, you will be waiting to have the tank refilled regularly. The water recovery of 40 is also average in comparison with the 60 of Aquaguard Sure Delight and 50 of Atomberg. The design is not as smooth or as modern as the Atomberg Intellon or NATIVE M1.
In general, in case you desire a truly unconditioned warranty with preventive scheduled maintenance, a stainless steel tank to ensure hygiene and the promise that all the drops of water are filtered 100 percent by RO, then V-Guard Rejive 2X is a great choice. The DuoGuard Technology that saves you the price of an external pre-filter is a convenient added value as well.

On the municipal water with TDS of about 350 ppm, the Livpure Allura Prime minimised the output to around 65 ppm and the flow was steady. The 10-step purification involved the elimination of sediments, carbon filtration, RO processing, UV sterilisation, UF polishing, copper infusion, and alkaline enhancement. This is a good set up in municipal supply where TDS is less than 500 ppm.
The copper infusion provided a trace of copper which was measurable like the Aquaguard models. The alkaliser increased the pH levels to the alkaline level, and the mineraliser replaced calcium and magnesium. In-tank UV maintained sterility of stored water even after a few hours, particularly handy with families who fill the tank in the morning and drink all day.
The 7 litre tank is a bit bigger than the 6 litre tanks on most Aquaguard models and smaller than the 8 litre tanks on the Atomberg Intellon and NATIVE M1.
The initial 2.5 years of all filters, membranes and service visits are free of charge. This eliminates the fear of having to pay unanticipated service bills in the early days.
The most important disadvantage, however, is the 500 ppm TDS limit. This purifier cannot be effectively used in homes on borewell water, tanker supply or in areas where municipal TDS is above 500 ppm. Atomberg Intellon can handle up to 1,500 ppm, the V-Guard Rejive 2X can handle up to 2,000 ppm and even the low-end Aquaguard Sure Delight can handle 1,000 ppm. The Livpure Allura Prime can only be used in low TSS municipal water.
The highest flow rate is given as 1.8 litres per minute that is equivalent to 108 litres per hour. This value is probably throughput prior to RO processing. The real purified output is less and similar to standard RO purifiers within this range.
The cost of post-warranty maintenance will be determined by the pricing of the services provided by Livpure, which is not as publicly displayed as the ₹5999 or ₹2960 of Aquaguard and Atomberg. Livpure has a service network that is found in large cities but not as extensive as that of Aquaguard.
The Livpure Allura Prime meets the need in case you have low TDS municipal water and require copper-enriched alkaline purification with 2 years of free maintenance at less than ₹15000. In case of higher TDS water, a purifier with wider TDS coverage should be selected.

Aquaguard Nexen is positioned in the middle-to-high end at ₹15,499 and places itself as a value-based product with 2 year filter life and a full warranty coverage.
It is equipped with a 6-litre ABS tank, 9-stage purification and a maximum flow rate of 24 l/hr. Purification system is RO + UV with NanoPore Filter Technology and 3 in 1 Active Copper Technology. It operates on all water sources such as municipal, borewell and tanker water but not beyond 1,000 ppm TDS.
The NanoPore Filters provide the advanced protection of the modern pollutants such as microplastics, pesticides, lead and mercury. RO Maxx 2X is used in heavy-duty purification and UV e-boiling is used to purify water that is as pure as water that has been boiled more than 20 minutes. The Active Copper Technology is infused with copper on the first drop, is clean-free and can be used by all age groups.
The extra Mega Sediment Filter helps to avoid choking and prolong the life of internal filters.
The most impressive one here is the 2-year warranty. Compared to most Aquaguard models, which only have 1-year warranty, the Nexen provides warranty on all parts of the product with 2 years of free installation. Free Genuine Service Plan will have 2 free cleaning services and unlimited repairs visits within the first year.
Aquaguard argues that you will save more than ₹18,000 on filters in the lifetime of the product. A total of ₹5,999 is the full overhaul cost of the filter. This translates to about 250 a month with the 2-year filter life.
The purifier has an optional drip tray that is convenient in filling bottles and glasses. It is 32L x 27W x 48H cm and has a weight of 6 kg.
Regarding the disadvantages, it has a maximum TDS capacity of 1,000 ppm, which is a limitation of the device in high TDS regions. No in-tank UV sterilisation; the UV is only inline, so that water sitting in the tank does not receive the constant UV treatment. The 6 litre tank is small in size to accommodate bigger families. In general, the Aquaguard Nexen is a good mid-range product in case you desire the stability of the Aquaguard brand, 2-year full warranty and Active Copper Technology. It has a 2-year filter life and ₹5999 replacement cost, which provides decent long-term maintenance economics. However, Atomberg Intellon is still the cheaper option as far as the lowest maintenance cost is concerned.

How To Choose A Water Purifier With Low Maintenance Cost?
Purification Technology
The first and most obvious thing that users consider when purchasing a water purifier is purification technology. And of course, it has a direct effect on the quality of purification and maintenance cost.
Domestic water purifiers in India are offered in RO, UV, UF and combinations. Naturally, there are other alternatives, which also involve other technologies such as alkaline mineralisation, copper infusion and TDS control. However, the most important is the base purification technology.
Among them, the most widespread and successful combination is RO + UV + UF. RO manages the reduction of TDS and dissolved impurities, heavy metals, pesticides and microplastics. UV kills bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms. UF provides an added protection by eliminating ultra-fine suspended particles. The combination of all three technologies in a purifier is deemed to be the best fit in most water sources since it is able to treat municipal, borewell and tanker water.
Other purifiers such as the Atomberg Intellon have Intelligent Filtration System that automatically chooses the mode of purification depending on the input TDS. At low TDS, it does not go through RO and applies only UF + UV, which conserves minerals and lessens the wear on the RO membrane. This intelligent strategy prolongs the filter life and minimises the maintenance expenses in the long term. With that said, not every adaptive purifier is compatible. Not all of them can change modes correctly, and this may affect the quality of purification.

RO-only purifiers are not common in branded segment but are offered in local or unbranded. They do not have UV protection and hence they might not kill all the microorganisms. On the same note, UV-only purifiers can only be used on water that has low TDS and no dissolved impurities. When your source water contains high TDS, you will not be able to use a UV-only purifier.
100% RO processing purifiers such as the NATIVE M1 and V-Guard Rejive 2X make sure that all the drops go through the RO membrane without any bypass or mixing of the MTDS. Although this ensures maximum purification, it normally leads to increased wastage of water.
Filter Life and Replacement Cost
The two most significant parameters that can be used to calculate the long-term maintenance cost of a water purifier are filter life and replacement cost.
A filter life of 2 years or approximately 10,000-12,000 litres, whichever is reached first, is now being offered by most modern purifiers. This is much better than the older models which needed to change filters after every 6-12 months. The longer the filter life, the fewer the replacements, the fewer technician visits and the cost of maintenance is reduced.
The total cost of replacement of the filters differs greatly among the brands. Atomberg Intellon is the cheapest with a complete overhaul costing 2960. A full replacement of Aquaguard models will cost ₹5,999. The AMC of NATIVE M1 is about 4,500 in 2 years. V-Guard includes all replacements under 2-year unconditional warranty. When comparing purifiers, never fail to look at the costs of individual components because a certain brand might be more expensive on the cost of RO membrane and yet the cost of other filters is low.
You should also think about whether you are capable of replacing filters or you should hire a technician. Other brands such as aquaguard need certified technicians to replace their products which increases the cost in case you are not within the warranty clause. Others are easier to use with designs that can be changed to DIY filters.
TDS Values- Purifier to Source Water.
The amount of dissolved solids in your source water is indicated by TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) in parts per million (ppm). It is the one and the most important consideration when selecting a purifier.
- Less than 300 ppm – Municipal supply in the majority of metro cities. UV+UF purification is adequate, although RO may be employed with mineral restoration.
- 300-1,000 ppm -Most common in smaller cities and shallow borewells. RO+UV+UF is recommended.
- 1,000-2,000 ppm- Deep borewells and tanker water in most Indian areas. You should have a purifier that is rated as high TDS and has strong RO membranes.

Enquire about the highest TDS rating of any purifier. Even models that have a rating of 1,000 ppm will not work on 1,500 ppm source water, even though it may seem to work at first. The membrane becomes more degraded, the life of the filter is reduced and the quality of output is reduced.
Here we have covered TDS Controller Vs Mineralizer in Water Purifier
Water Recovery Rate – What Percentage of the Water is Wasted?
The process of RO purification uses water in its nature. Recovery rate informs you of the amount of purified water in relation to the litre of input water. Less waste implies higher recovery.
- 30-40% recovery – This is typical of old or low-end models. Every 10 litres of the processed are rejected at a rate of 6-7 litres.
- 40-50% recovery – Mid-range models of better membrane technology. The Atomberg Intellon has a maximum of 50%.
- 50-60% recovery – The Aquaguard Aura 2X with Dual Layer Filter Technology.
A purifier with higher recovery rate will save a significant sum of money in months in water-scarce areas or households that rely on tanker supply. The rejected water can be used to mop, garden, or flush but the less the volume of rejection the better.
Tank Material and Capacity
The material of the tank influences the hygiene of the stored water as well as the durability of the purifier in the long run. Stainless steel tanks such as those in the V-Guard Rejive 2X and Aquaguard Aspire Blaze are resistant to corrosion, do not form odour and preserve water longer. They are also stronger and do not deteriorate with time. Most other models use food-grade ABS plastic tanks which are lighter and cheaper but can develop minor odour or discolouration over a few years of usage.

Tank capacity is significant when the family is large or when water supply in the area is intermittent. The choices available in this list are 5.5 litres to 8 litres. A family of 4-5 should have an 8-litre tank such as in the Atomberg Intellon and NATIVE M1. A 5.5 litre tank can be purified more often, consuming slightly more power.
Warranty and Service Support.
One of the most directly affecting factors on the cost of maintenance is warranty. An all inclusive warranty that includes all filters, membranes and electrical components implies zero maintenance cost within the warranty period.
The majority of purifiers in this list have a warranty of 2 years, although the coverage is quite different. V-Guard Rejive 2X is the one that has a 2 year warranty that is unconditional and that has proactive scheduled service visits. Atomberg offers a 2-year warranty with zero-cost. NATIVE M1 has a 2-year unconditional warranty that is renewable to 2 years. Aquaguard models are usually provided with 1 year warranty with free service plans which include installation and visits to clean the aqua guard in the first year only.
After the warranty period, the AMCs are available and priced differently. Certain brands such as NATIVE have organised AMC plans. There are other such as Aquaguard who have their service network which charges per visit and component replaced.
The quality and the reach of the service network is important as well. Aquaguard boasts of the largest network of service in India including the small towns. V-Guard is well established particularly in South India. Atomberg and NATIVE are more based on urban-based service models. In case you are in a smaller town, it is better to cheque whether the brand has its services in your town before buying.
Smart Features
Intelligent functions such as IoT connectivity, application-based monitoring, TDS display and automated service notifications are becoming the standard of the modern purifier. They assist you in keeping track of filter health, water consumption and even automatic booking of service.
Atomberg Intellon and Aquaguard Ritz Pro are the leaders in this category, where they have the full integration of the app, real-time TDS monitoring, filter life monitoring and automatic service request. NATIVE M1 is also capable of smart monitoring.
Although smart features do not directly lower the maintenance cost, they allow you to prevent premature failures of the filters by notifying you about issues early. They also eliminate unwarranted visits by the technicians as they give you the correct filter life details thus you do not replace filters before they expire or after they have expired.
Budget
Low maintenance water purifiers cost as low as 10,000 to 28,000.
The cheaper alternatives such as Aquaguard Sure Delight ₹10,499 have 2-year filter life and reasonable purification. Atomberg Intellon, Aquaguard Enrich Marvel and V-Guard Rejive 2X in the ₹13,000 to ₹17,000 price bracket are mid-range products with the best feature balance, purification and low maintenance price. Additional features such as Aquaguard Aspire Blaze at ₹27,499 include hot water dispensing and stainless steel tanks, but at a very high price point.
When comparing the budget, do not only look at the initial cost, but the overall cost of ownership after 4-5 years including the replacement of filters, AMC fees, wastage of water and power usage. A purifier that has a high initial price but less maintenance cost can prove to be cheaper in the long term.
Best Brands
Both brands have their strengths and weaknesses. We discuss them briefly below.
The most established brand in the water purifiers in India is Aquaguard (Eureka Forbes). Their network of services is the largest, including small towns and rural locations. Their products are well built and the NanoPore and Active Copper technologies are actually effective. However, their price of replacing filters is high at 5,999. Moreover, the 1-year warranty on most models is not as long as the competitors such as V-Guard and Atomberg provide. The 2 cleaning visits and unlimited repairs free service plan is only offered on the first year.
Atomberg is a comparatively new player in the water purifier industry but they have established a good reputation with their fans and mixer grinders. Their Intellon purifier is innovative with Intelligent Filtration System and the lowest post warranty maintenance cost of 2,960. The smart functionality and IoT integration are great. However, they have an urban-based network of service. In a small town, timely service may be a problem. That being said, the 2-year warranty is all inclusive and there is no cost to it which means that you have plenty of time to test the product.
The use of the existing service infrastructure of Urban Company is an advantage to NATIVE by Urban Company. Service orders are done through apps and technicians are trained and rated. The processing of 100% RO is guaranteed to provide complete purification. However, Urban Company is only represented in large cities. The availability of services in the tier-2 and tier-3 cities can be uneven.
V-Guard is a popular brand of electrical and electronics that has a good presence particularly in South India. The Rejive 2X has an actual no questions asked warranty and proactive service, which is not common in this category. The stainless steel tank and DuoGuard Filter Technology are useful innovations. They have a good service network in South and West India but possibly limited in North and East.
Here we have covered the Stainless Steel Vs ABS Plastic Water Purifier
Livpure provides low-end features at low prices. The 2-year warranty on free maintenance is appealing. However, the low TDS content of 500 ppm on the Allura Prime is a serious limitation to its application. The availability of post-warranty spare parts and service may be not consistent in certain areas.
What are the Maintenance costs of UV water purifiers?
Kent, a leading brand, charges ₹1500-₹3000 per year which covers the sediment, activated carbon filters that need replacing every 6-8 months. Aquaguard offers AMC plans starting at ₹599 per year which include up to 3 free maintenance visits, filter and tank cleaning, unlimited repair visits, and free annual filter replacement (Source: eurekaforbes.com). Pureit’s basic AMC plan covers periodic servicing and standard filter replacement, while their comprehensive plan adds electrical parts coverage, free emergency visits, and more flexibility for ₹1200-₹2000 more per year.
Other top brands have similar costs. AO Smith recommends replacing the UV lamp every 12 months and the pre-filters every 6 months at a cost of ₹2000 – 3000 annually.
Livpure’s AMC plans start at ₹1999 per year and include 2 free service visits, filter replacement, and electrical parts (Source: Livpure.com) Budgeting ₹2500 per year for AMC and filter replacements is kept in mind when purchasing a UF water purifier from brands like KENT, Aquagurd, Pureit, AO Smith and Livpure.

Hi, I live in Gurgaon, where the water hardness is around 300 mg/L. I don’t think all the RO systems mentioned in your list can handle this level of hardness. Could you please suggest the best RO combination that can easily handle water hardness above 300+ mg/L?
Thank you.
Yes, you are correct, not all RO systems can be used effectively at hardness levels that are greater than 300 mg/L. The most effective purification combination is RO + UV + UF in case of water hardness of approximately 300+mg/L. Aquaguard Sure Delight NXT RO+UV+UF – This purifier has a capacity of water hardness to the tune of 600 mg/L. You can get filter life 5000 to 5500 L since input water TDS 300mg/L
Hi, we use borewell water. The TDS is between 90 and 110 ppm. Should we use a normal RO membrane that guarantees 6,000 litres, or a 12,000-liter RO membrane? I have heard that if the input water TDS is under 150 ppm, the RO membrane life increases, and sometimes the filter lasts more than 24 months.
Havells brand also introduced 3x filter life ro, why you have not listed them in your list. Looking for a complete review of the 3X ro filter life.
