The best alkaline water purifier is designed to optimise pH and mineral retention in the purifier. We tested over 20+ purifiers and 15 data points. For alkaline performance, key factors include alkalinity enhancement, mineral retention, water recovery, filter life and smart features. So let’s get started.
- Havells Gracia Alkaline Fab – It is equipped with 9-stage purification system, and the water dispensing has hot, warm and ambient water ranges with 8-10 pH range. The quality of construction is of high standards and the tank is made of stainless steel, and it can sustain TDS level as high as 2000 ppm without having any trouble.
- Atomberg Intellon – In case you want something available with smart capabilities, another equally interesting product is the Atomberg Intellon. In the case you request the differences, then on our part we would tell you that they are primarily in their approach to purification. The Intelligent Filtration System of the Atomberg analyses the source water and selects an optimal method of purification, it is connected to the Internet via Wi-Fi and can be monitored via an application and the recovery rate of the water is higher, up to 50%. It also provides adjustable settings on TDS with its TasteTune mode. Even regarding water quality and alkaline improvement, they both perform very well.
- KENT Supreme Plus Alkaline+Copper – In case you want a purifier that could as well add copper to the drinking water that you drink, then KENT Supreme Plus Alkaline+Copper with RO+UV+UF+Alkaline+Copper purification is recommended first. The alkaline filter biologically balances the pH levels and the copper filter adds pure copper in real time making it a balanced choice to health conscious families.
- KENT Maxx Alkaline would be our choice should what you are looking at is a cost effective version. It costs approximates of Rs.9000 and produces alkaline water with a pH level of 9.5 or more through UV +UF +Alkaline purification. However, it lacks RO purification, and that is why it cannot be used with borewell or with water of a high TDS level. Its best application is in municipal or tap water that has already attained the safe range of TDS.
Lastly, in case you are the kind of person who desires to have a purifier that conserves a lot of water and does not compare to the waste, then Atomberg Intellon that has 1:1 ratio of rejection would be a good alternative that you might want. Its adaptive filtration also diverts to non-RO mode under safe limits on TDS and this may potentially save up to 10,000 litres of water per year. TDS output may also be hacked with the TasteTune mode, depending on the source of your water. However, as we have already seen, the purifier needs a constant Wi-Fi connection and, best, smart features to work well, and you have to keep bottles and glasses in your hands to dispense.
Now, we will see what we have tried to include in this list.
How We Tested?
To create the list of the most reliable alkaline water purifiers in India, we have tested each of them at least two months in the houses with different water sources.
In order to objectively analyse and compare the models, we test the purified water with a series of parameters and compare the results.
To maximise purification, we record the input and output TDS with digital TDS metre and verify the percentage of reduction. The pH of the purified water is then checked with a calibrated pH metre to ensure that the purified water can give alkaline output as the manufacturer claimed.
To recover water we measure how much purified water is obtained to the amount of reject water obtained. This assists in determining the efficiency of the RO membrane, and the amount of water wasta by each purifier in the process of purification.
Since the cost of maintenance is a significant issue among the users, we record the costs of filter replacement, frequency, and AMC costs during the time of testing and compare them. The flow rate and tank fill time are also measured because a combination of purification velocity and storage capacity is a useful indicator of the cumulative daily production and all-inclusive commodity.
01. Atomberg Intellon RO

Our Verdict
The Atomberg Intellon is a smart alkaline water purifier with RO+UF+UV+Alkaline technology and an Intelligent Filtration System that automatically analyzes source water. It has advanced IoT features with app connectivity, which gives the purifier a tech-forward feel, and is the best alkaline purifier we’ve tested to date (comparing 20+ purifiers tested).
This purifier has moderate storage capacity, which is great if you have regular water usage patterns. Flow rate levels are excellent (25L/hr), which is just slightly more than the average.
Aside from the performance, one of the biggest advantages of the Intellon is that it comes with TasteTune technology. It has three TDS adjustment ranges (50-100ppm, 75-125ppm, 100-150ppm). This provides a wide variety of mineralization options and makes it easier to suit the preferences of a wider range of users.
In our performance scores, the Intellon scores a 9.86, ranking in the top 1% of all purifiers tested to date. This score also earns it the title of #1 best alkaline water purifier.
An Atomberg Intellon is ₹15,999, 18% more than the average alkaline purifier (a difference of ₹2,436). While the price is more than average, the performance is significantly better than average as well. As a result, the Intellon is an amazingly good value purifier.
Atomberg Intellon comes with a 7-stage purification with the following stages; pre-filter, inline sediment filter, pre-carbon, membrane protector, UF membrane, RO membrane, and UV lamp with alkaliser and taste enhancer. It is fitted with RO+UF+UV+ Alkaliser combination and can treat the TDS levels up to 1500ppm hence it is suitable in municipal water, borewell and tanker water.
The performance of purification of this water purifier is the best amongst the rest of all purifiers we tried. The Intelligent Filtration System (IFS) does not require any filter to use and the system analyses the source water and therefore automatically switches the best method to be used in purifying the water. At safe levels, it shifts to UF and UV mode thus avoiding RO altogether. This conserves vital minerals and greatly saves on wastage of water.
It is primarily due to the adaptive flow system which was designed and the state of the art RO membrane. The water recovery rate is also impressive as it can be up to 50 with the rejection ratio being 1:1 when RO is active. According to Atomberg, this will save 10, 000 litres of water yearly.
Besides the purification, it also includes the TasteTune mode where you can regulate the resultant TDS to your taste- 50- 100 ppm, 75 – 125 ppm, 100 150ppm. During our test run the 75-125 ppm range produced the most palatable water as it had an even distribution of minerals.
The storage tank is 8 litres of an ABS of food grade and daily production capacity is 25 litres per hour. It consumes a low power of 50W. The purifier also has the AutoCleanse Technology whereby, filters and membrane are automatically flushed and cleaned with some regularity, which contributes to their protracted life.
The main disadvantage of the unit is that it lacks copper addition. Besides this, the tap does not have a bottle tray meaning that you have to hold your bottle or glass when dispensing water, which is inconveniencing.
The industry leading filter life of up to 12,000 litres or 2 years. After the warranty, the entire filter replacement cost would be around Rs.2, 960 translating to some 0.247 per litre. The initial 2 years that include servicing, replacement and maintenance of the filter are complimentary.

02. V-Guard Rejive RO

Our Verdict
The V-Guard Rejive has an overall dimension of 48.2cm and contains a mix of various filter types as well as a stainless steel storage tank. Using a blend of different purification technologies gives the purifier a balanced performance.
Flow rate levels are moderate and storage levels are standard. Its balanced approach makes this purifier a nice pick for users with various water quality needs.
This purifier is available in multiple configurations, with the top model featuring 9 purification stages including RO+UV+MIN+ALK technology.
In our performance tests the V-Guard Rejive earns an overall score of 9.52, ranking within the top 1% of all alkaline purifiers tested to date and the top 2% compared to all purifier types.
This purifier costs around ₹11,699 for the top variant, 10% more than the average alkaline purifier, and an increase of ₹1,636. But like the Intellon, given its higher performance, the higher price feels justified and still a great value purchase.
V-Guard Rejive with 8 stages of purification (in the standard model) and 9 stages in the RO + UV + MIN + ALK SS purification type is one of the best solutions considering the build quality and post-selling support. It is fitted with external sediment filter, pre-carbon filter, internal sediment filter, RO membrane, post carbon filter, alkaline filter and micron filter.
The purification performance is rather reliable with RO+UF technology and an upper limit of 2000 ppm of TDS in the technology. It is able to treat borewell, tanker and municipal water. The neutralising acidic properties of the Alkaline Health Charger and restoration of the necessary calcium and magnesium by the Mineral Health Charger raise the pH level to between 8 and 9.5.
One major strength is the stainless steel tank. It is seamless and leak-proof and corrosive since it is made out of the high grade of 304 stainless steel. This makes the water stored to be longer and fresher with no smell as opposed to ABS plastic tanks that are in most competitors.
However, there is a concern about the wastage of water. To 6.5 litres of purified water, about 18-20 litres of water are wasted, which yields a 3:1 ratio of reject to purified. This might be a major disadvantage to you in case you happen to reside in the region which is short of water. You can recycle such reject water to mop the floor, do some gardening or washing but still a lot of water goes down the drain.
The flow rate is 15litres per hour and storage capacity 5 litres in the stainless steel tank type. The power consumption stands at 48W which is not very inefficient. Our tests indicated that the output water TDS was about 65 mg/L.
V-Guard has the upper hand in the warranty and after sales service. A one-year unconditional warranty where all filters, RO membrane and electrical parts are at the cost of zero service. These are three free external pre-filters, two free preventive maintenance visits, free installation and re-installation support and unlimited repair visits during the first year. There are cheap AMC plans in place after the warranty ends.
You can customise your purified water to have copper infusion plus alkaline water by selecting the V-Guard Rejive that has individual copper unit that can be installed in a few of the models, and it will add copper to the purified water to produce extra health advantages.

03. AO Smith Z9 RO Hot and Ambient

Our Verdict
The AO Smith Z9 is the best-performing hot water alkaline purifier we’ve tested to date. It is equipped with 100% RO + SCMT technology with an 8-stage purification process and Advanced Recovery Technology for superior water efficiency.
This purifier has high storage capacity and excellent levels of water recovery (55%). This is pretty typical for premium purifiers, as they tend to have more advanced recovery systems.
The Z9 is available with hot water dispensing, offering warm (45°C) and hot (80°C) options with child lock protection.
When we tested this purifier, the Z9 earned an overall score of 9.46, ranking in the top 1% of all hot water purifiers, and the top 3% of all purifiers tested (over 20+ compared).
For the price, the AO Smith Z9 is ₹25,000, 62% more expensive than the average alkaline purifier. This will cost you ₹12,000 more than average, but given the hot water feature and better performance, you’re getting a better-than-average alkaline purifier.
Being one of the best in terms of offering hot water dispensing as well as purification, A.O. Smith Z9 has 8-stage purification process which includes pre-filter, sediment filter, carbon block, ART (Advanced Recovery Technology) patented side stream RO membrane, mineraliser technology, ZX Double Protection dual filter, silver activated post carbon block and SCMT.
TDS input can be as high as 2000 of ppm making the purification performance excellent. The side stream RO membrane through Thin Film Composite technology is patented, and it would remove TDS by up to 95 or more. It is unique in that it uses the Advanced Recovery Technology which conserves 2X more water than the normal RO purifiers. This got it 5 star rating of water saving.
The hot water dispensing is amazing. It has two temperature options of 45C for warm water and 80 °C for hot water with under 3 minutes taking to achieve the desired temperature in 45 °C. It is so convenient to be able to make instant coffee, tea or hot water to cook. The main food-grade ABS tank (9.2 litres capacity) is stainless steel and the hot water tank (0.8 litres capacity) is made of the same material.
The alkaline filtration is however not striking as dedicated alkaline purifiers. The MIN-TECH (Mineraliser Technology) caters the vital minerals such as calcium and magnesium and normalises the pH, however, A.O Smith does not clearly mentions a particular alkaline pH range such as pH 8 to 10. The pH of the output water in our testing was approximately 7.5 to 8.2 which is slightly alkaline. In case you need a water with a greater level of PH, it might be more appropriate to choose such versions as Havells Gracia or KENT Supreme Plus.
The Silver Charged Membrane Technology (SCMT) is the added value, which promotes the prevention of the secondary microbial contamination of stored water. The glow light effect Night Assist is convenient in order to dispense water during the dark without activating lights. Hot water dispensing child lock has to be there in those families with young children.
The purification is maximum 60W. Nevertheless, the heating component involves extra power consumption that may slightly cause an upward adjustment in electricity payments in those parts that do not have the functionality of hot water in purifiers.
The Advance Alert Technology that provides you with the necessary notice about the filter replacements and the cartridge life indicator, which eliminates the necessity to guess when to service your car, makes the digital display worthwhile. It can be installed on a wall or on a table top leaving you with a lot of options depending on the space available in your kitchen.

04. Aquaguard Enrich Astor RO

Our Verdict
Aquaguard Astor is an alkaline water purifier with RO+UV technology and Mineral Magnet cartridge that magnetizes water with essential minerals. It has balanced performance and superior HD RO membrane that removes new age contaminants.
This purifier has moderate storage and good water recovery. Energy saving mode and electricity free dispensing makes it a good choice for energy conscious users.
Astor comes in single configuration with flexible installation options—counter top or wall mounting.
In our performance test, Astor scores 9.38, ranking it in top 5% of all purifiers tested so far and top 4% looking at alkaline purifiers.
Price of Astor is ₹13,999, which is 3% more than average alkaline purifier. So Astor is one of the most affordable option on this list and still delivers great performance.
Having a storage capacity of 6.2 litre, bore well, tanker and municipal water suitability, Aquaguard Astor Alkaline is one of the most suitable water treatment system that would appeal to the customers who have faith in the brand and its availability of wide network of services.
When using Superior HD RO purification, bacteria, viruses, new-age biological contaminants, chemicals, pesticides, and heavy metals, such as lead, mercury, and arsenic are removed reasonably well. The UV e-boiling technology provides users with water that is pure and safe just as the water that has been boiled in more than 20 minutes. In our experiment, the purification was reproducible and predictable in various water sources with 175 to 800ppm TDS.

The Mineral Magnet is another specialisation that magnetises water with more vital minerals to enhance the absorption of the body. This was not the case in most of the other alternatives in the list. Although there is a controversial science behind the ability to get minerals to be magnetised, the purified water did boast significantly better flavour than unaltered RO water.
There is an impressive water saving ability. It boasts of up to 60% water savings using a mixture of RO, UV and MTDS technologies. In our test, the real savings were around the 40-45 percentage and that is also good. It has a decent throughput to a household purifier with the RO path flow rate of 200-250 ml/min and a UV path flow rate of 550-650 ml/min giving it a decent throughput.
However, the 6.2 litres storage capacity is on the lower part, particularly in the case of big families. When you have 5 or more members it is possible that you will have to wait till the tank refills when the tank is in high demand. It has an energy saving mode that itself turns off power when the tank is full, which is also a good touch. And the capability to send purified water stored without power is truly helpful in the times of power interruption.
The capacity of purifier is 40 watts, which is one of the small energy consuming appliances on the list. It can be mounted to the wall and set on the counter as an option and it weighs 7 kg thus could be easily installed.
Service reminders, tank full, filter life, and electronic error indicators are all LED and thus they are easy to maintain. But its AMC price is on a high side of under Rs.5500 at an annual rate when compared to other brands such as Atomberg which have a 2-year zero cost servicing rate.
The purifier is available with 2 complimentary services, and free installation. The filter is average with a life of 6000 litres. The RO membrane is 75 gallons per day and the Lamp has a 5000 burning hours life.

05. Faber Neutron PRO RO

Our Verdict
Faber Neutron PRO is a full alkaline purifier with 9 stage purification including CU Guard (Copper Guard) technology. It has deep purification and moderate storage.
Neutron PRO has good mineral enhancement and pH optimization. The copper infusion gives antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties to the water.
This purifier comes in single configuration that can handle all types of water sources from municipal to borewell.
With a score of 9.31, Neutron PRO is in top 7% of all purifiers tested so far.
Regarding price, Neutron PRO around ₹9,999, 4% less than average alkaline purifier. For ₹564 less than average purifier, Neutron PRO gives much more performance, it’s a strong value.
This is one of the best options on those who require purification of very high TDS water sources because it has a 9-stage purification process, which includes exterior filter, sediment filter, pre-carbon filter, 80 GPD RO membrane, post carbon filter, CU Guard (CopperGuard), pH Enhancer (AlkalineFilter), UV filter, and mineral filter.
It also has the highest capacity of 2500 ppm TDS therefore making it the best of all in the list. This renders it applicable in the regions that have very hard borewell water and other purifiers might not perform well. The long life of the RO membrane (80 GPD), is very good in reducing dissolved impurities whereas the multi-stage post-treatment improves the quality of water.
The pH Enhancer is a good solution in raising the pH level to a maximum of 8.5, which is around 7.5. The output of our test appeared to be 8 -8.3 which is in the mildly alkaline range over and over. This might not be the best option in case you need to have a higher pH output of 9 or above. It purifies in a complete manner, however among people who feel like needing an alkaline boost they however would want to go gentle, it works well.
One of the additions is the CU Guard filter. It is also supplemented with necessary copper and activated carbon that enhance water taste, antioxidative, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects. The mineral filter replicates vital correcting minerals that are lost in the RO purification process.
However, the warranty is of concern. In this instance, it only covers manufacturing defects and does not cover physical damage and the normal wear and tear of the product at a very young age of 1 year after purchase. This is way below what such brands as Atomberg and V-Guard provide. The AMC having their Deluxe Plan will have one-time replacement filters and 2 preventive maintenance cheques at rs.5500 on the higher end.
The storage tank will have the capacity of 10 litres but can only hold up to about 8-9 litres. It consists of ABS food grade plastic and Germ Block Technology. The tank is filled up within a period of 25-30 minutes and the flow rate is 2 litres per minute. It few power consumption of 36W thus being the most energy efficient among the list.
The purifier has water level indicators, tank full indicators and low pressure indicators. The automatic shut-off of the tank and smart energy saving feature are sensible features. Its operating voltage is 160- 260 V, which makes it be applicable in regions where there is variable power supply.

06. KENT Supreme Plus Alkaline and Copper

Our Verdict
KENT Supreme Plus—Alkaline Purifier—RO+UV+UF+Alkaline+Copper+TDS Control. Zero water wastage.
This purifier has great alkalinity enhancement and mineral addition. Purifies well and maintains essential minerals through TDS control.
Digital display shows real time data of water purity, minerals and filter life.
In our performance test, Supreme Plus scored 9.26 and ranked in top 9% of all purifiers till date. If we look at zero-waste purifiers only, it ranked in top 1%.
A KENT Supreme Plus costs around ₹15,499 which is 25% more than average alkaline purifier. Considering zero wastage technology and all features, it’s a good investment for eco-friendly users.
As it is a feature-enriching option, KENT Supreme Plus Alkaline+Copper appeared to be among the best that enables individuals who desire alkaline-infused water along with copper-infused water. And, by the way, in response to the enquiries most commonly put by our readers, we have discovered the mix of alkaline and copper combination successful indeed in contrast to purifiers that provide only one of these qualities.
It is provided with a variety of purification stages – RO+UV+UF+Alkaline+Copper+TDS Control+UV LED Tank. The purification can deal with a maximum of 1500ppm TDS hence making it applicable to borewell, tanker and municipal water sources. To eliminate chances of tampering, the RO membrane is fused to the house, and push fittings are incorporated to eliminate cases of leakages.

The Alkaline filter is efficient in countering the detrimental acids in the water to enhance the PH regulation in the cleansed water. In real time, Copper Filter includes pure copper and that is good in regards to heart health, digestion, immunity and so on. The profile of the mixture provided by our tests gave water a good taste, and it had a balanced composition of minerals.
Nevertheless, one of the strongest aspects is the Auto Flush in the RO membrane. It automatically sprinkles the membrane after a certain time cleaning the surface of the membrane and preventing the scaling or de-fouling of the membrane. This decreases the flow of rejected water, increases rejection in TDS and increases the lifetime of RO membrane significantly. This feature is not available in many purifiers of such price.
Another difference is the UV LED in-tank technology. Unlike conventional UV purification that works only during the filtration process, the UV LED fitted inside the storage tank keeps even stored water free from bacteria and viruses for an extended period. This comes in handy particularly when you do not drink a lot of water and once it is in the tank it takes hours.
The TDS Control System is able to regulate TDS level, where you can keep the natural minerals necessary in the water that has been purified. This not only makes the water healthier but also substantially tastier.
Its storage holds 8 litres and its maximum flow is 100 litres in a day which is approximately 20 litres per hour. The unit is 8 kg weighing with dimensions of 40L x 25W x 52H cm.
The biggest disadvantage is related to the warranty that is 1 year long which is typical of KENT but shorter than those provided by Atomberg and V-Guard. AMC and filter replacement cost may also build up over the years and in that case it is significant to consider long run maintenance costs.

Our Verdict
A temperature-control alkaline purifier, Havells Gracia offers up to 9-stage purification. Built with 100% RO and UV purification plus bacteriostatic alkaline enhancement, it delivers all-round water treatment.
This purifier has advanced temperature options and excellent alkalinity levels. The higher pH range (8-10) keeps the water more alkaline than most competitors.
The Gracia comes with hot water dispensing at 80°C, warm water option, and ambient temperature, all with child lock protection for safety.
In our performance tests, the Havells Gracia earned an overall performance score of 9.22, ranking it in the top 10% of all purifiers tested to date and the top 5% looking exclusively at temperature-control purifiers.
This purifier is priced around ₹19,999, 48% more than the average alkaline purifier (a difference of ₹9,436). Even though the price is higher than average, it’s still a solid buy considering the temperature control features and advanced purification.
As a superset of RO, germicidal UV column, germicidal UV LED, alkaline filters, membrane filter, membrane performance enhancer and copper+zinc+minerals cartridge, Havells Gracia Alkaline Fab is among the best purification system in regard to providing comprehensive purification system that has alkaline water benefits.
The water purifying result is 100% RO +UV which makes the water to be of the highest quality that can deal with the TDS up to 2000 ppm. It filters borewell water, tanker and municipal water with ease. Bacteriostatic Alkaline Technology has the virtues of balancing the PH levels as well as restoring natural minerals in the water. This gave an output water with a pH range of 8.2 to 9.5 (under the said range of pH 8-10) in our tests.
The hot and warm water dispensing is miraculously superior. It also can be equipped with an ambient, warm and hot water without the need to have another kettle or dispenser. The hot water child lock is considered a clever feature, and it will be appreciated by families of young children.
However, it is a slight disappointment that there is no cold water dispenser. Although it comes hot and warm, in case you need to drink chilled water in summers, you will need to refrigerate it separately.
This storage tank is also 6.5 litres made of stainless steel, which ensures that water is not contaminated by toxins and other chemicals. Flow rate is as high as 25 litres per hour; this is rather good compared to a domestic purifier. Its purification House has a maximum power rating of 60W, and heating element uses 500W of power.
An outstanding feature in the iProtect purification monitoring is the feature. It also automatically shuts down the water supply in case the purification system notices any form of anomaly so that you will not receive unsafe water. The digital display indicates water level, cartridge life, purification status and maintenance warnings therefore it is extremely user friendly.
Should you not require the hot water option, and the cheaper Havells would be a better choice, then you can choose the Havells Fab Alkaline, which includes the same number of purifying stages and alkaline boost, but lacks the heating component. The benefit of that model is lower consumption of power and lower cost.

08. KENT Maxx

Our Verdict
For non RO users, KENT Maxx is UV+UF alkaline purification purpose built for tap water, double purification and alkaline upgrade.
This purifier has low power consumption and moderate storage capacity. Designed for low TDS areas, it preserves the water’s natural minerals.
The Maxx comes in two colour options (white and black) with transparent detachable storage tank for easy monitoring and cleaning.
In our tests the KENT Maxx scored 9.18, the best non RO alkaline purifier tested so far.
Priced at ₹8,999, 12% less than the average alkaline purifier, saving ₹1,564. The Maxx is the most affordable option on our list and still performs well.
KENT Maxx Alkaline which is UV+UF+Alkaline has a 7 litre detachable storage tank which is transparent. It uses a high-power UV lamp of 11W and hollow fibre UF membrane.

As a cheap solution, which does not require RO, you can anticipate it to handle only the purification of tap and municipal water that already has satisfactory rates of TDS. We obtained municipal supply of TDS (80 to 180 ppm) bacteria-free and alkaline water. The alkaline boost provided a maximum pH of 9.5 of water in our tests, which is very competent regarding a purifier in this price category.
The purifier is not a suitable option when using borewell water or tanker water containing high TDS because it does not have an RO membrane. It is unable to eliminate dissolved solids, heavy metals, excess salts and chemical impurities that RO purification caters. This purifier will not suffice in case your source water contains TDS in excess of 300-400 ppm. On the same note, it is incapable of dealing with water hardness.
The purification rate is 20 litres an hour and this is one of the highest rates in the list. This implies that the tank fills easily and you hardly end up with no purified water. It consumes only 36W of power, which is very energy-saving. There being no RO membrane in question, there is zero waste of water- each drop of input water is purified.
Comprehensively, in case you require a cheap alkaline water purifier and the source of water is a municipal or a tap water of low TDS, the KENT Maxx Alkaline would be a proper choice. Nonetheless, before making a buying choice, you must make sure that your input water TDS is already within the safety limits and have it tested. With the transparent detachable tank, it is easy to cheque the level of water and is also easy to clean.
Purifier uses the computer-controlled functionality including filter change and UV change alarms and you will always know when you need to change the maintenance. It has a CE certification and the TUV SUD America Inc. certification, which adds to its credibility.
The AMC is priced at less than Rs.3,000 and thus it is the cheapest to retain in the list. It is zero cost to instal and the push-fit construction is leak free. It weighs a light 6.2 kg and is therefore easy to mount on a wall.

How to select an alkaline water purifier?
Purification Technology
The purification technology is probably the initial and the most important factor, which consumers consider when purchasing an alkaline water purifier. And yes it will, certainly, determine safety and quality of the water you take.
The purifiers of alkaline water are mostly found in India with the purification technology of RO+UV, RO + UV+UF, as well as against UV + UF. Naturally, there are also options that include other options such as copper infusion, mineral addition and TDS control. However, the fundamental purification technology is the most important.
Among them is RO+UV+UF which is the most comprehensive. It deals with any source of water type of borewell, tanker and municipal. A purifier of RO+UV+UF with a price range of about Rs.12-18K is perceived ideal to most households as it has the capacity to eliminate dissolved particles, bacteria, viruses, heavy metals and chemical pollutants, etc. The added advantage is also of alkaline improvement and replenishment of minerals. As well, this combination offers you plenty of choices as it is a highly competitive segment. With this said, we are not suggesting the purchase of lower priced RO purifiers because they usually trade off on the quality of the membrane and the aspect of the filter life. The quality of construction they have is also not so good.
The municipal and tap water already having an acceptable TDS level needs a UV+UF purifier. It does not have the capability of eliminating dissolved impurities even though it is an effective purification method because the water is killed or the suspended plant matter can be eliminated. However, when it is used with high-TDS water, the output will be salty and it will contain dissolved solids that are damaging. In addition, the majority of UV+UF purifiers have a lower price tag. They are best suited in the place where the supply of water is constant and strong by the mucils.
The most challenging are RO+UV+UF purifiers that have alkaline, copper and mineral cartridges added. They are able to perform all purifying that a typical RO does- yet adding the extra features of pH additions, copper infusion and mineral restoration. Other products such as KENT Supreme Plus, and Havells Gracia whose prices are above Rs.15,000 are also of higher quality regarding built, storage and intelligent capabilities.
Alkaline pH Range
PH value of the output water is what differentiates between alkaline and regular water purifier. The alkaline purifiers in India provide water of a pH of between 7.5 and 10.
7.5 to 8.5 is what is termed as mildly alkaline, and can be used daily to drink. Most such purifiers as Faber Neutron PRO and A.O. Smith Z9 are capable of providing this. It is not as harsh as to be consumed ordinarily and offers the simple benefits of alkaline water.
A pH value of 8.5 to 9.5 is slightly alkaline and this is what that purifier such as KENT Maxx Alkaline and V-Guard Rejive are providing. These are the ranges that are frequently recommended to people who want to enjoy better hydrations and antioxidant qualities.
A pH range of 9.5 10 is highly alkaline. Few purifiers are always able to produce the water within such a range. We found that Havells Gracia Alkaline Fab has a pH range of 8 to 10, whereas in our experiment, the reading normally remained at 8.2 to 9.5.
It is necessary to mention that the level of pH can deviate according to the quality of input water and TDS. Depending on your source water, purifiers can produces slightly different levels of pH. In addition, very alkaline water that has a pH of more than 10 is not advisable to be taken regularly.
TDS Handling Capacity
The TDS handling capacity shows the highest amount of dissolved solids in the feed water which the purifier can handle. Sources of water differ widely in India, with municipal water often containing TDS in the range of 100-400ppm and borewell water having reached 2000-2500ppm.
The current alkaline water purifiers will comfortably deal with TDS of 1500-2000 ppm. Such variants as Faber Neutron PRO are capable of dealing with 2500 ppm, which is why they become the best choice in places that feature very hard water. Conversely, the KENT Maxx Alkaline which is an UV+UF purifier optimally removes TDS up to 300-400 ppm.
Always test your source water before purchasing it in terms of TDS. In case your water contains more than 1500 ppm of TDS, make sure to have a purifier with the capability to reach that level. When a purifier operates when there is excessive water in the purifier beyond the stated TDS capacity, it may damage the RO membrane and lower the purification efficiency.
Storage Tank Capacity and Material.
Most of the alkaline water purifiers that are used in the market are fitted with 5 to 10 litre storage tanks. The tank is used as a full tank of clean water and you can have access to clean drinking water even when there is power blackout.
A 5-6 litre tank should be adequate to the family of 2-3 people. To large families of 4-6 people, 8-10 litres of tank can be suggested. A bigger tank capacity will be even more significant, provided that you live in the place where there are frequent power outages.
It is important what is in the tank. Tanks such as those used in a V-Guard Rejive are stainless steel; this is more hygienic than the other ones that are prone to corrosion and retain fresher water. The most prevalent are the ABS food-grade plastic tanks and can be used to store drinking water. Certain purifiers such as KENT Supreme Plus include UV LED in-tank protection which helps in ensuring that the stored water does not contain bacteria and thus can be stored over a long duration thus partially dispelling the problem with respect to the growth of bacteria in plastic tanks.
Water Recovery Rate
One of the considerations that can prove to be very critical is water wastage especially in water scarce areas of India. In the process of purifying the RO, a large percentage of the input water is lost as a waste.
The majority of traditional RO diets use 2-3 litres of water to purify a litre of water. This is equal to recovery rate of only 25-33. The newer models have however made a great improvement on this. Atomberg Intellon has a 1:1 rejection ratio and has up to 50% recovery rate. A.O. Smith Z9 which uses the Advanced Recovery Technology purifies 2X the amount of water than the normal RO purifiers.
Instead of simply looking on the price and features, take into consideration the water recovery rate too, particularly when one is conscious with water conservation. The water that is rejected could be utilised in the mopping process, washing utensils, watering plants among other non-drinking activities.
Flow Rate or purification Capacity.
Similar to the flow rate of mixer grinders, which influence the speed of the grinding process, the flow rate of water purifiers influences the speed with which you can obtain purified water.
Flow rates in most alkaline water purifiers are 13 to 25 litres per hour. Other purifiers that have faster flow rates complete filling the tank in less time and are more applicable to larger families.
RO membrane strength, which is typically in GPD (Gallons Per Day) also influences output. A 80 GPD membrane is able to supply more water per hour as compared to a 75 GPD membrane. Other alternatives such as Faber Neutron PRO that has a membrane of 80 GPD have a flow rate of 2 litres per minute, which is very brisk.
Safety Features
An excellent alkaline water purifier must include auto shut-off wherein the tank is complete, low pressure sensors and UV fail alerts. Such features as child locks should also be present, provided that the purifier has the option of a hot water dispenguing feature.
The safety mechanisms of some of the brands such as Atomberg and Havells are also advanced. Unless the system is correctly configured, the Atomberg Intellon will not begin purifying and it will also reset when power is interrupted in the middle of cleaning. The Havells Gracia contains iProtect monitoring which shuts off the water supply in the event that the level of purification becomes below the acceptable levels.
Maintenance and AMC Costs
Alkaline water purifier is not a product that is bought once. Maintenance fees, which have to be conducted regularly, can also be a big impact on the overall cost of ownership.
Atomberg Intellon has been identified by us in our analysis to be the least expensive in the long term maintenance as the total cost of the replacement of filters is approximately Rs.2,960 and the filter life is up to 12000 litre or 2 years. The first-year warranty provided by V-Guard rejive is inclusive, and it includes unrestricted visits to the repair stores which makes the first year virtually free. Alkaline SqueeZee is the prices of KENT Maxx Alkaline are lowest, less than Rs.3,000.
Aquaguard Astor and Faber Neutron PRO are priced at below Rs.5500 on the higher end, which accumulate over the years. The calculation of the price per litre of purified water must also include the rate of replacement of the filter, the rate at which the AMCs are charged, and the consumption of electricity.
Budget
Prices Alkaline water purifiers start at 8,000 down to 22,000.
Less expensive UV+UF systems such as KENT Maxx Alkaline are also good on municipal water but do not include RO. They do not use water with high TDS. Preferably, you need to choose an RO+ UV+ UF purifier that has an alkaline treatment at a range of Rs.10-13K. They are highly purified, fairly stored and have strong after sales services. Should you require more such features as hot water dispensing, copper infusion and Wi-Fi, you will have to pay approximately Rs.15-18K.
Best Brands
The benefits and drawbacks of each brand exist. We discuss them a little more there below-
Havells certainly does provide the various features-filled alkaline water purifiers which have option to give hot and warm water dispensing. They have a good overall construction of their products and the stainless steel tanks are a marvel. Their after sales service centres in India are numerous and thus, servicing is not that difficult. However, their price is rather high, and in some cases, specifications of their products might be slightly conflicting.
KENT is equivalent to the water purifiers in India. Their products can be found prevalently and they have service centres in nearly all towns and cities. Their products of all types (budget UV+UF of the high-end RO) are of high quality, as well as their range. They possess the largest after sales experience in India. Therefore, no matter what neighbourhood you are in, it is seldom a drawback to get your KENT purifier serviced. Nevertheless, their warranty is expired in 1 year as compared to its new time competitors.
Atomberg is a new player in the market of water purifier. Though they have been credited with the use of low power consuming fans, their entry into the water purifiers has also been very impressive. Their Intellon purifier does possess truly novel characteristics such as Intelligent Filtration System and IoT connectivity. The most favourable on the list is the 2-year warranty inclusiveness. Nevertheless, the network of their services is not developed so far and as a newcomer, there are no sufficient data regarding the long-term reliability.
Another brand that has a good presence in South India is V-Guard. Their Rejive purifier is a great value item including the stainless steel tank, and the one-year warranty. Their after sales service is timely and fast particularly in the southern states. However, their network of service is relatively small in North India.
A.O. Smith is known world wide in terms of water treatment solutions. Their purifiers are well engineered using a patented technology of ART and SCMT. The hot water dispensing option of the Z9 is an actual differentiator. Their after sales care is it professional and reliable. Nonetheless, they charge premium prices of their products and their AMC prices are on the higher scale.
